You can use a coarse furnace filter material to make excellent looking conifers like these:



This furnace filter material is getting hard to find. The key is to google on "hog hair filter" material. You will find a number of links to cut material and even rolls of the material.

The name of the company that currently distributes this filter material is American Air Filter.

For about $50 you can get a 2 foot wide, 30 foot long roll -- which will be enough to last you for your entire layout unless you really need a LOT of trees!
